OUR STORY

Bar-B-Que King originated in 1955 when that nickname was given to James Bloomfield by customers as he served up delicious food out of Zanzibar. A decade later, in 1965, Bar-B-Que King opened its own storefront/kitchen as part of the same building.

The restaurant has always embodied family as its been passed down through generations. Virgil Joseph “VJ” and Emma Henry (pictured) helped Bar-B-Que King cement itself as a Tampa institution with multiple locations throughout the city over the years. Yet, the original destination has remained the heart and soul of Bar-B-Que King.

STILL THE KING

Over 50 years later, Bar-B-Que King remains family-owned and operated by fourth-generation sisters Tiffany Powell and Amelia Howard. We're still serving those same flavor-packed dishes and homemade sauces that made us “the best in town.”

With a revamped primary location and and a food truck, Bar-B-Que King is writing a new chapter in the restaurant's storied history.
